Why I love the Oscars

Can anyone else believe it’s only Tuesday?  I’m seriously longing for the weekend.  It’s going to be one of the best of the year – a little awards ceremony is going on, have you heard? Winking smile

Even though I know how cynical people can be about the Oscars (do they really highlight the best films?), I still adore them.  The glitz, the glamor, the surprises.  I even took a tour of the Kodak theater on a family vacation to L.A. a few years ago – one of the most exciting tours I’ve ever been on.  To celebrate this momentous weekend, I’ve compiled a list of reasons to love the Oscars that may warm even the most jaded movie-critic (okay, probably not):

1. Some of the best actors in the world, all in the same room

Oscar grou

Come on, you can’t tell me you don’t want to see Hugh Jackman joking with Jennifer Lawrence (who should be another reason to watch all on her own), or Adele making all the A-listers starstruck.  This kind of starpower only happens once a year.

2. The host!/poking fun at the Academy

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes the hosts have been TERRIBLE.  Either they were too cruel to the actors/movies, not cruel enough, or just plain unfunny.  That being said, I’m really excited for Seth MacFarlane.  I have a feeling he’ll throw just the right amount of punches to keep everyone honest.  And you know that man can SING.

3. The Speeches

The awards speeches are like roulette; you never know what to expect.  It could be heartfelt or funny, too short or too long, crazy weird or boring.  The randomness is what makes it exciting, and it’s especially wonderful to see first-time or surprise winners so enthusiastic and happy to be on stage (one of my favorites from last year above!).

4. The new trendy additions added each year

I find it really amusing to watch the Oscar organizers try to “keep it real” for today’s youth.  For example, including the Twilight stars (really?).  What a painful disaster.  I think we’d all just be better off if they acknowledged their own pretentiousness, but hey, I’m always game to watch a train wreck.

5.  If nothing else, you get to dress up and drink fancy booze.

Enough said.

Food + Fitness:

On the other side of the spectrum, I PR’ed in my 5K on my run today!!!!!!

Distance: 3.1 miles

Time: 27:57

Pace: ~ 9:00/mile

I guess we call this a tempo run Open-mouthed smile ?  I was really trying to push myself (plus I waited until the last minute to work out), and was very happy with the outcome.  Later I did some core work via Bob Harper.

Today’s eats were nothing special (waffle sandwich, salad, grilled sandwich + steamed veggies), but I did try a new Chobani product, the Chobani bite:

chobani

I had the Raspberry Dark Chocolate flavor, and it was an excellent snack!  I love that Chobani makes the flavor so intense in all their products – it’s why they’re my favorite type of greek yogurt.

That’s it for me – here’s hoping the week speeds up!

Favorite Chobani Flavor?

I like the raspberry and the pineapple – and the new pear flavor is up there too!

Will you watch the Oscars?

I’m already planning on getting out my fancy cocktail glasses – be on the lookout for my predictions later this week!

One Response to Why I love the Oscars

  1. Awesome article! I really mean that. Sometimes it is really hard to find blog posts that are worth reading all the way through (i mean I definitely don’t expect people to read every word in ever article I publish on my website, even though I hope people think I publish decent stuff). I honestly didn’t miss a word and think you have something really good going here. Keep to your opinions and creating lists like this.

I think I probably fall into more of a snobby movie critic spectrum than you, but I have not fallen to far down the pretentious road yet. I love the Oscars and the nominations. I am super excited!

I am excited to hear your predictions. I just published a predictions article today from one of my writers if you want to check it out on my site.

    Happy Writing!
