My Thanksgiving Menu

Every year, my family gets together in one giant crazy group for Thanksgiving dinner.  For a long time, we actually had two Thanksgiving meals – a “lunch” for my dad’s side, and actual dinner at my other grandma’s house.  After my grandma got older, my mom started hosting, and I loved the set-up: a long table with gold tablecloths and fancy napkins, tons of food, and roughly 30 family members (that’s just ONE SIDE, mind you).  This year, it’ll be even better – my dad’s side of the family is coming too, which is gonna make for some hilarious interactions…let’s just say I’m very happy I’m over 21.

That’s the long table but for Christmas last year….just imagine an even longer table with fall decorations….mmmkay?

Since food is the center of Thanksgiving, I thought I’d share what my family usually eats and what I’m planning on contributing to the meal (now that the risk of killing myself with a knife is minimized, I like to add random festive dishes to liven the menu up):

Family Fare (Staples):

Turkey (roasted)

Stovetop Stuffing (don’t hate, shit’s good)

Roasted Ham

Gravy (my grandma’s recipe)

The BEST mashed potatoes (my dad’s recipe, I could eat these every day for the rest of my life and will try to get the recipe!)

Green Bean Casserole (bleck)

Cranberry Sauce (Canned and Homemade)

Rolls

Pumpkin Pie

Apple Pie

Salad (but let’s be honest, who eats that?)

My Planned Dishes:

Sausage Apple and Fennel Stuffing

Sweet Potato and Honey Rolls

Mulled Apple Cider

Pomegranate Gin Sling

Pumpkin Blondies

I made the stuffing last year and it was time-intensive, but delicious (and actually better the next day.  The rest are all first timers for me, but I’m excited!  Especially for the rolls.  And Cider.  And blondies.  And well everything.

I also might find the time over the weekend to try some other recipes – I’ll share if I do!

What are you making for Thanksgiving?
